PD. Dr.-Ing. M. Ali Nasseri is a researcher and university lecturer working mainly in computational ophthalmology with multidisciplinary background and experiences in engineering, computer science, and ophthalmology research. He is currently head of research at the ophthalmology department of Klinikum Rechts der Isar which is the university hospital of Technical University (TUM) of Munich, Germany. He has published more than 100 high-impact papers in technical and clinical journals and conference proceedings. He is the founder and lead of the laboratory of Medical Autonomy and Precision Surgery (MAPS) at TUM.

The Main Purpose of this Series:
Computational ophthalmology is an interdisciplinary discipline that has emerged in recent years involving several specialties including ophthalmology, engineering, and computer science. It covers topics that are aiming at solving complex ophthalmic challenges with the help of technical and clinical solution integration. The recent topics of highest interest in computational ophthalmology are machine learning and artificial intelligence in diagnostic methods such as disease classification, prediction, and progress tracking as well as therapeutic planning and robotics.

The Special Series of Advanced Robotics, Visualization, and Machine intelligence for Ophthalmic Applications is a platform for the dissemination of novel scientific results related to computational ophthalmology with a focus on clinical translation. The topics of interest are but not limited to the following: Machine intelligence, Deep learning specifically explainable AI, micro and nanorobotics, image-guided solutions as well as visualization. Multidisciplinary projects with the direct involvement of engineers, computer scientists, clinicians, and biologists are specifically encouraged.

The Special Series as a part of the ophthalmology Journal is aiming at collecting the latest reports from national and international research teams working on methods and systems related to the above mentioned fields.
