Dr. Xiaohua Zhuang is currently an Associate Professor at the Illinois College of Optometry, Chicago, USA. She has extensive training and research experience in psychophysics and vision science. Over the years, she has conducted research on contrast sensitivity, color vision, and other topics in vision science. Recently, her research has been focusing on how aging and eye diseases affect contrast sensitivity, in particular, the contrast sensitivity processing in the parvocellular and magnocellular visual pathways.

In Dr. Zhuang’s view, peer review is a key process to involve reviews, feedback and opinions from independent researchers and experts in the relevant field. It is one of the most important steps to ensure high-quality publications. It is a crucial process to warrant a continuing meaningful, significant and imperative development in science. To her, the essential qualities of a reviewer include being an independent researcher, being knowledgeable about the topic in the manuscript, and being fair and willing to provide good service to the community.

It is a time-consuming task to be a reviewer. However, the time one devotes to this service is well spent. I believe reviewers’ contribution to a rigorous scientific process is significant, and it is appreciated and recognized by the scientific community,” says Dr. Zhuang.
